About the practice

JDDK Architects was founded in 1987 and is based at Millmount, Newcastle upon Tyne, working throughout the UK and with experience in Ireland and mainland Europe. Starting from a specialism in hospice and residential projects, the practice has expanded into health, veterinary, visitor centre, leisure, learning, heritage and workspace sectors, alongside affordable and private residential and retrofit work. It states a particular interest and experience in environmentally low-impact design applied across its work. In 2022, 100% of company ownership transferred to an Employee Ownership Trust. The practice states its work has received over 100 architectural awards, including the RIBA Building of the Year Award (now the Stirling Prize) for St Oswald's Hospice.
